Aurora Youth Options has completed the first pilot cohort of the new girls mentoring group HERd! The six-week program took place online every Thursday 4-5PM targeting youth whom identifiy as she, her and hers. The six weeks included lessons in self-care, mindfulness, healthy relationships, art therapy with a spring themed paint night, and ended with college and career readiness.
The first session set out to get to know one another, set goals for HERd and acted as excellent tone for the rest of the program. Youth were able to discuss about their goals for the future and used their creativity to make virtual vision boards. Each week the girls learned about a new topic and engaged in discussion and activities related to the topic. Some favorite activities were doing at-home yoga, 3-minute meditation, creating word clouds, making vision boards, and more!
All the girls had an excellent time engaging in discussion and getting to know one another through creative activities and conversation. After the program the girls will receive their very own certificate of completion and gift card!
We are so excited for the future of HERd, and thoroughly enjoyed the great conversation and sense of community built within the group. This pilot cohort was an amazing success, and we can’t wait for the next cohort to be even better!
Our next cohort will begin on Thursday May 6th , 2021 and will remain virtual. Please contact Lauren McHugh (email@example.com) or Laura Moore (firstname.lastname@example.org) for more information or to join! We hope to see you then!
