On October 10th, the young men of our Male Group Mentoring (MGM) program had some friendly competition on the basketball court as they faced off against officers from the Aurora Police Department (APD). The Male Group Mentoring Basketball clinic was an opportunity to bridge the gap between APD and youth within the community by hosting fun, engaging activities that provides a common ground for all participants. AYO believes that by having more interaction opportunities between APD and youth, it will help remove the negative stigma of how the community may perceive cops. Thank you to Officer Manley, Officer Lesnansky, Officer Bailey, Officer Boone and Officer Hayes who played, the young men of MGM, and Wheeler Elementary for letting us use the gym! It was a great time and we hope to make this a bi-annual tradition!
