July 14, 2012

Saturday, July 14, 2012 Aurora Youth Options Mentor program held its July monthly activity volunteering during Aurora’s KidSpree @ YumFest on the Great Lawn at the Aurora Municipal Center. The event provided over 8,000 participants the opportunity to enjoy free hands-on activities and live entertainment. In addition to the family fun, this year the event also featured various food trucks with delicious diverse cuisine.
Activities included: stilt walkers, rock climbing, karaoke, bean bag toss, games, magic shows, water wall, kandy lane, giant maze, zumba dancing, carpenter’s corner, face painting artist, touch a truck exhibit, balloon twisting, pony rides and many more.
Youth and their mentors volunteered to assist the hands-on activities, answered questions and supported the event staff. An AYO Mentor Program youth who completed the Aurora Police Department Junior Patrol program was assigned to work with Aurora Police Officers in patrolling the event making sure the event was safe for all.
Each match received a volunteer T-shirt, refreshments and a meal pass. After volunteering many stayed to enjoy the festivities. The day was a great learning experience, an opportunity to give back to the Aurora community, and tons of fun.
